The course lives inside Balance

Your weekly learning and real-world actions stay connected.

The app supports the course rather than replacing it. Course shows what to learn, Home makes the next action obvious, and your plans, Weekly Goals and Feed help you practise it during the week.

Your complete six-week path

Learn it, use it, review it, then make it fit real life.

Foundations is a guided starting course, not a pile of information. Each week gives you a clear lesson theme, practical actions inside Balance, and one review point with Shannon.

What Balance Is Built On

Begin with the practical working model used throughout the course: notice the signal, check your body, context and environment, choose one workable adjustment, then repeat and learn. The lesson also explains the limits of the science and what the course does not claim.

WEEK 1

Why change feels hard

Understand how your brain uses past experience, set your first Weekly Goals, and begin with a workout and meal-plan starting point you can actually use.

WEEK 2

Work with your energy

Notice how sleep, stress and low-energy days change your choices. Use the app to keep the next action visible when the week is not ideal.

WEEK 3

Build a rhythm that sticks

Use repetition, smaller actions and your surroundings to make training and food habits easier to return to.

WEEK 4

Take the fight out of food

Learn what cravings and emotional eating may be trying to solve, then use meal support and food tracking without turning the week into a test.

WEEK 5

Make progress easier to repeat

Shape the choices around you, follow your workout plan, and use your real training evidence to see what is working.

WEEK 6

Build your sustainable way forward

Bring your training, food and comeback plan together. Finish the course, complete your reflection, and receive your verified Certificate of Completion.

What you actually do each week

A simple rhythm with a clear Saturday review.

Every week follows the same understandable loop. You are never expected to absorb the whole course at once or guess what to do next.

1. Learn the week's idea

Complete the five short guided lessons in Course. Each lesson connects the behaviour-change idea to a decision you face in normal life.

2. Choose the week's actions

Turn the lessons into 1 to 3 Weekly Goals and a small set of practical course actions, so the week stays focused.

3. Practise inside real life

Follow your workout plan, use meal support, and record the useful evidence the course asks for. Feed gives you a place to share a reflection, action or win.

Every Saturday

Complete your weekly check-in. Shannon reviews your training and food, then makes practical adjustments for the next week.

At completion

When the required prelude, all 30 weekly Foundations lessons and the required weekly course actions are genuinely complete, Balance issues your named Certificate of Completion with your course completion date. It is not an accredited qualification.

Everything supporting the course

The tools serve the six-week journey.

You do not need another folder of information. The plans, goals, community and coaching review exist to help you use each week's lesson when life is not ideal.

01

Complete guided curriculum

Start with one required prelude, then complete 30 lessons across six weekly themes, with actions that turn the ideas into repeatable behaviour.

02

Home and gym training

Follow clear workouts with exercise guidance, logging and progress tracking inside Balance.

03

Meal planning support

Keep meals, protein and habits clear. The support can fit plant-based eating when that is right for you.

04

Community accountability

Use Feed for course reflections, useful actions and shared wins during the six weeks.

05

Progress that feels alive

See your training, habits, streaks and milestones build instead of disappearing into a spreadsheet.

06

Weekly review and adjustment

Each Saturday, Shannon reviews your training and food, then adjusts the next week from the evidence you created.

Why the system works differently

Knowledge becomes useful when it changes the next action.

Foundations combines clear learning, small practical commitments and a real weekly review, so a difficult day does not have to become another abandoned week.

One focus at a time

Each week has a defined theme, five lessons and a short set of actions instead of an overwhelming library.

Evidence, not perfection

Your training, meals, goals and reflections show what actually happened, giving the review something useful to work with.

A planned return

You learn how to make the next useful action smaller and clearer, so missing a day does not mean starting over.

Real people Shannon has coached

Different journeys. The same need for a plan that works in real life.

These people were coached by Shannon before Balance Foundations. Their experiences helped shape the practical support, shared accountability and weekly adjustment now built into the course.

Shared accountability

Chrissy and Bec

The sisters each lost more than 10 kg and became stronger. Having someone beside them made the plan easier to return to and helped turn individual effort into shared momentum.

Strength and confidence

Gen

Gen's journey was about more than a visual change. Clear training direction and steady coaching helped her build strength, confidence and evidence that her effort was working.

Dani's eight-week coaching progress shown in two photographs
Eight weeks of steady work

Dani

Dani created visible body-composition progress over eight weeks by staying with the work. Her journey is a reminder that repeatable weeks matter more than chasing a perfect one.

Shane completing his 150 kg front squat at full depth
Eight-week strength progression

Shane

A difficult 100 kg front squat became 150 kg for two reps. Each session had a clear job, Shannon adjusted the plan from Shane's lifts, and Shane kept showing up and using the feedback.

Individual experiences vary. These are examples of Shannon's previous coaching work and are not promises of a particular result from Balance Foundations.

Shannon Birch, exercise scientist and founder of Balance
Built by Shannon

I wanted people to understand why they keep restarting, then have a practical way forward.

I am an exercise scientist and former gym owner. I built Balance Foundations to translate behaviour-change and neuroscience ideas into decisions you can use during an ordinary, imperfect week.

Balance Foundations is a supported six-week curriculum with me. You receive one Saturday check-in, workout and food review, and practical adjustment each week. It is not a subscription, and the program finishes after week six without renewing automatically.

Is this you?

A good fit if you want a real system, not a fitness identity test.

Balance Foundations is for you if:

  • You know some of what to do but struggle to keep doing it when life changes.
  • You feel overwhelmed by all-or-nothing plans or keep restarting after a missed day.
  • You want a clear weekly course, workout structure and practical accountability.
  • You are willing to complete the lessons, weekly actions and Saturday check-in.

It is probably not for you if:

  • You want instant replies or unlimited daily one-to-one coaching.
  • You need medical, injury or clinical nutrition treatment.
  • You only want a PDF and never plan to use the app or community.
  • You expect results without completing the training and check-ins.
Clear before you join

Questions people usually ask.

What happens after the six weeks?

Balance Foundations is not a subscription. It finishes after week six and does not renew automatically. You can decide what you want to do next without another payment being taken.

What coaching is included?

For six weeks, you receive one weekly check-in plus a workout and food review with practical adjustments from Shannon. You can also ask questions inside Balance. It does not include instant replies, unlimited daily access or live weekly calls.

Can the meal support fit plant-based eating?

Yes. Meal-plan support can fit plant-based eating and other recorded dietary needs. Plant-based eating is an available support option, not a requirement or the focus of the course.

Can I train at home?

Yes. Balance supports home and gym training, and the starting structure can be matched to the equipment you have available.

Is the character the main point of the app?

No. Gamification is there to make consistency more enjoyable. Your workouts, nutrition, progress and community remain the main experience.
